Five years ago, he was writing letters to leading musicians requesting them to launch him. And now Kerano (Karanvir Singh), a Delhi-based DJ, has created a record as his track “Breathing” has topped the Beatport progressive house chart.
The song, released recently, was in the top ten-list in two days itself. It has been made in collaboration with the Dutch duo Magnificence. “I was actually travelling, and happened to meet the duo in Amsterdam. It was there that I literally just bumped into them. That is when we decided to collaborate.”
The DJ was in the city where he performed at Hauz Khas, the last leg of his national tour which included Pune, Guwahati, Indore and Hyderabad. He lived up to his reputation by playing varied tracks that the audience could not help but groove. The fades and drops were smooth with a great beat throughout.
Excited about making an impact before music lovers, DJ Kerano says: “I love playing in Delhi since it is my hometown. I am relatively relaxed and I thoroughly enjoy it.” The fact that his song topped the charts seems to have given him a boost. “It did involve a lot of hard work and now I finally feel like it paid off. Since it required a lot of travelling for quite sometime, this song is closest to my heart.”
Narrating his hard days before the new album gave him breathing space, Kerano says: “There were times when nothing was working. I was recently going through e-mails that I had sent five years ago and was amused to read a few of them. I sent emails to everyone I could think of, and of course, I did not get a reply. I also sent an email to A.R. Rahman saying ‘Hi, I would love to meet you’. I somehow recovered from that phase and you just have to remember that you need to pursue your dreams.”
That was in the past. For the future he seeks to make his presence felt in the international arena. “I intend to go international by being a part of festivals like Ultra, Miami. My dream collaboration would be with Steve Angello. I absolutely love his music.”
On the genre of music he likes listening to, Kerano promptly replies: “Rock, any day. I am a drummer and that is probably the reason why I enjoy Rock music so much. I play a bit of Hip Hop and Trap, but because I have been playing house music since the very beginning, I have gotten used to it.”
